The Evidence

Shimalia’s approach is informed by a growing body of clinical and scientific work — published in journals including Nature, The Lancet, JAMA and the New England Journal of Medicine — demonstrating that nutrition, environment and lifestyle interventions can meaningfully influence biological function, including in conditions widely considered chronic or irreversible.
Among the clinicians and researchers whose work has shaped this direction of enquiry:
Dr Brooke Goldner — board-certified clinician and Chief Resident at UCLA whose recovery from lupus nephritis through nutritional intervention is extensively documented, and whose published clinical work has contributed to growing recognition of nutrition as a therapeutic approach in autoimmune disease.
Dr Cyrus Khambatta — UC Berkeley PhD in nutritional biochemistry whose peer-reviewed research demonstrates that nutrition and lifestyle intervention can meaningfully influence metabolic health, including in conditions widely considered chronic and progressive.
Dr Dean Ornish — Clinical Fellow at Harvard Medical School and clinical professor at UCSF whose pioneering randomised trials were among the first to demonstrate that comprehensive nutrition and lifestyle intervention can begin to reverse severe coronary heart disease without drugs or surgery. His research has further demonstrated that lifestyle intervention may slow or reverse early-stage prostate cancer, influence gene expression by activating disease-protective genes and suppressing genes associated with cancer and heart disease, and most recently reverse the progression of early-stage Alzheimer’s disease.
Dr Terry Wahls — clinical professor of medicine whose dramatic functional improvement from secondary progressive MS through nutritional intervention became the subject of her own peer-reviewed clinical research programme, with over 60 published papers and 7 clinical trials demonstrating meaningful improvements in MS patients through dietary intervention.
Dr William Li — Harvard-educated clinician whose research on angiogenesis, nutrition and cancer prevention, published in the New England Journal of Medicine, demonstrates that nutrition directly influences the biological processes that drive or suppress disease.
Dr Emeran Mayer — professor of medicine, physiology and psychiatry at UCLA whose four decades of peer-reviewed research have reshaped understanding of how the gut microbiome and nutrition influence brain function, mood, cognition and systemic health.
Their collective work forms part of a wider and growing evidence base — one that continues to challenge long-held assumptions about what is and is not modifiable through biological intervention.
